Cathlab Technician
Catheterization laboratory or Cath Lab Technicians are trained to assist interventional cardiologists in performing diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive cardiac procedures with the help of cardiac and coronary imaging. The students will be trained to assist doctors during procedures such as coronary imaging including angiography, IVUS, FFR etc., percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), rotational atherectomy, peripheral angiography, and interventions for structural heart disease. Students will also be able to interpret basic ECG’s and recognise cardiac arrhythmias. Cath Lab Technology is very similar to another occupation Cardiovascular Technologists and Technicians. These technicians conduct tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. may conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary-functions, lung capacity, and similar tests and assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac (heart) and peripheral vascular (blood vessel) ailments. A Cath-Lab, technician is a professional who works in the field of cardiovascular technology. They are vital team members who assist doctors during invasive cardiovascular procedures.
Eligibility
- 10+2 educationcompleted in the Science stream from a recognized educational Board.
- Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology as the main subjects of study at the 10+2 level.
- A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the 10+2 level.
Opportunities
After the successful completion of the course and internship, student could be employed as a Cath Lab Technician or Cardiac Catheterization Technologist in hospitals, diagnostic centres, nursing homes and cardiac clinics. After working as a technologist and gaining some experience, they can work as
- Application specialist in medical equipment manufacturing companies and
- can also work as a faculty in academic courses.
